We found these massive magnolia blossoms in Osaka — huge, perfect saucer magnolias growing quietly among the plum and cherry blossoms, unbothered by the company they were keeping. Two blooms on a single branch, chiyogami petals carrying their own interior worlds of pattern, the gold foil ground warm and luminous beneath them.
This is a painting about peace. And joy. And the specific happiness of finding something beautiful when you weren’t quite expecting it.
