Updating my studio space (because i’m bored)

We purchased our home in Burien, Washington 2 years ago. I was very excited since it had 2 garages (a single car garage on each side) and the back of one had been a wine cellar for the previous owner. So i had grand plans to convert the wine cellar to a studio.

Garage studio space

Over the last 2 years i have basically left it unchanged. This year however because of Covid19, i found myself with a lot of energy and needed a place to direct it; so i started doing DIY stuff. And eventually i got to the studio itself.

I patched and added drywall. Mudded and taped, then painted everything a white. There is only 1 window in the outside entry door under the deck and what ever leaks in from the garage, so now it felt bright and inviting.

Then i started re-arranging my layout. I put up more shelving to show off the work and shifted the drawing desk to allow for separate space to do drawings and one long wall for large paintings.

Had grand plans to do a wall easel system, but it got pricey and complicated. (Here are a couple of the systems i was inspired by: https://www.instructables.com/id/Wall-Easel/, https://www.etsy.com/listing/706069332/artist-easel-wall-easel-painting-easel). Instead i used some of the left over construction materials and did a McGyver version. It works for now. Maybe someday i will get a real studio easel, for now i am just happy that i can do 4 paintings at a time – Not so bored now…
